Competitive Dog Sports for German Shepherds

The German Shepherd is a working breed that thrives with a job. While not all of use have the ability to use the breed for herding there are many dog sports available that will help fill your German Shepherds need for work.

Schutzhund. Developed specifically for the German Shepherd Dog Schutzhund was created to test the breeds mental toughness, courage, and physical ability.

MondioRing Sport. MondioRing sport is a relatively new exciting dog sport that combines the best of French and Belgium Ring sports into a highly competitive working dog sport.

Competitive Tracking. German Shepherds are excellent at tracking. The American Kennel Clubs offer trials from novice to advanced that test the breeds ability to track a scent.

Competitive Obedience. Competitive obedience can be fun and rewarding for both handler and dog. Both the United and American Kennel Clubs offer trials from novice to advanced that will test the handler and dog teams communication skills.

K9 Nose Work. This new sport is based on real life scent detection. Using oils instead of narcotics the sport offers German Shepherd owners a fun sport to engage the dogs most valuable tool, their nose.

Agility. Both the United Kennel Club and The American Kennel Club offer agility trials for German Shepherd owners. There are many agility clubs around the nation if you have a dog that is not registered as well.
